The Poet as Echo Score

This piece was inspired by my final paper for an upper-level Shakespeare course I took at Lesley University. In it, I performed a comparative analysis of the text of Hamlet and various musical setting of Ophelia's Mad Scene. However, this composition is set to the text of the first poem in my collection, Katabasis, and is written from the perspective of Echo, as depicted in Arthur Golding's translation of the Metamorphoses by Ovid. It nonetheless employs most of the compositional practices outlined in the paper, as very similar themes undergird Ovid's characterization of Echo and Shakespeare's characterization of Ophelia.
